“The Belt and Road” Sino-European Economic and Trade Law Symposium are held in Tongji Law School

 

To celebrate Tongji 110-year Anniversary, Tongji law school held “The Belt and Road” Sino-European Economic and Trade Law Symposium on May 21. As one part of Sino-European Research Committee of Shanghai Law Society in 2017, this symposium was organized by Sino-European Research Committee of Shanghai Law Society, and held by Tongji law school, “The Belt and Road” Strategy and Legal Foreign Affairs Institute and CDC Tongji University.

Dr. Jiang Bo, Tongji Vice President of Tognji University, Professor Zhao Haifeng, Deputy Chairman of Sino-European Research Committee of China Law Society, National Judge College, and Prof. Lin Yanping, Vice President of East China University of Politic Science and Law delivered speech. Prof. Wu Weimin, Dean of Tongji Law School moderated the opening ceremony. More than 70 participants from academic institute, government, arbitration organization and legal experts attended the symposium.

 

 

President Jiang Bo extended the warm welcome to the participants. He pointed out that XI Jingping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), President of the People's Republic of China (PRC), has visited China University of Politic Science and Law and made an important speech about “To further strengthen the construction of Chinese law science system, cultivating high level legal talents”. This symposium is held under such background, which has very unique implications. This symposium also added salt to Tongji 110-year anniversary. President Jiang also made brief introduction of Tongji arts science and welcome the support from experts present. He wished a success for the symposium.

 

 

The participants made a discussion on the connection of “The Belt and Road” strategy with EU trade and economic policy, with Sino-Eu investment trade contract, and with EU concerned investment risk and Arbitration and other issues. The experts on the symposium reached an agreement that EU is an important economic entity, an important partner of China, and also one stop of “Belt and Road”. If this strategy is implemented successfully in EU, it could play a model role for other countries. In the phrase of “Belt and Road” Strategy implementation, it is important to regulate the rights and obligations of related parties. This is a need for implementing the strategy successfully in EU and other places, and also need to safeguard overseas enterprises interested of China, therefore, bilateral or multilateral international Economic and Trade agreements with EU and other countries along “Belt and Road” should be signed.
