The Journey towards renewable energy and energy efficiency

Abstract:

Matthias Gelber will speak on practical aspects of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in our lifestyle at home and in the office and place of work. He will share how he reduced more than 90% of his condo electricity bill through behavioral change. Matthias will show some examples of simple tools that we can use to help us achieve those goals. He has as well examples of simple renewable energy gadgets that are helpful on a daily basis and that have even been manufactured in China.

Subsequent to graduating with Masters in Environmental Science from Brunel University in the UK in 1994, Matthias worked on an EU funded project to help small companies go green. He went on to start a successful environmental consulting company in 1999 which was acquired by a UK environmental engineering company in 2001. In 2007, he co-founded Maleki GmbH, a German company specializing in innovative, high performance, low carbon footprint construction materials. In 2008, Matthias was voted ‘Greenest Person on the Planet’ in and the same year, he also started Eco Warriors Malaysia, a community movement focused on taking positive action to combat climate change.

Matthias served as a Board Member of Solexel Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary Solexel Inc. In 2016 he acted as a part time consultant for the ADB delivering training at the ADB Leadership Conference in Seoul and he played a key role in developing and delivering the 1st ADB Green Business Forum. 

In 2016 he received the Green Icon of the year award by the Asia CSR Council. Currently he is an adviser to the Manila based indoor air quality company AOM and acts as Environmental Chief Officer for NEWERA Energy. NEWERA is working on an eco application of blockchain technology for carbon emission verification of eco friendly actions that individuals take. The aim is to reward people for their green action and to find a way to mobilize the masses to go green.
